Getting Better

It’s been awhile.  This is probably the longest I’ve been away from this blog since it’s inception.  Unfortunately this came right after I mentioned in my last post months ago that I was going to start blogging more frequently.  I wanted to, thought I would, but life got in the way.  I’ve been very busy and I’m sure everyone else has too, so I’ll spare you the details.
I’ve had the pleasure of attending several seminars and one certification course since I’ve last posted.  I saw John Berardi present “What Every Trainer Needs to Know About Nutrition”, Steve Cotter’s “The Yin of Training”, The Major League Strength Seminar with presentations by Brijesh Patel, John Pallof, Dana Cavalea, and many others, and I became a certified Level 1 Sports Performance Coach by USA Weightlifting.  I also began incorporating Olympic lifting into my training back in October to prepare for the USAW certification and to fill a hole in my training toolbox.
My lack of knowledge with this tool/modality had been bothering me for sometime;  I’ve been training under the tutelage of Artie Dreschler at Lost Battalion Hall, definitely one of the best gyms in NYC.  It’s been almost four months now, and I’m still pretty pathetic at the lifts.  It’s a bit odd that after a weekend course I can refer to myself as a coach of said lifts.  So, all and all it was quite a busy year, education-wise, as I also took a full course load of college courses online.  I said I’d spare you the details, but I guess I lied.

Since the added school work zapped my usual appetite for reading I began to listen to podcasts on my commute; these can truly be an awesome resource.  I’ve been listening to In The Trenches Fitness, The Strength Coach Podcast, and the Stop Chasing Pain podcast.  All of these are available on iTunes.com.  School is over for now and I’m back to reading; right now I’m working on Muscletown USA by Fair and Block Periodization by Issurin.  I’ll be back soon with my educational and professional goals for 2011.  Happy New Year!
